Fighting Fat: The Water Cure   Take the Habit-of-Health 90-Day Challenge

Being overweight is now rampant in America and more the norm than not. Almost everyone I know talks about losing weight and it being a losing battle. There is so much that is wrong with the American diet, that many throw up their hands and say, I gotta die sometime and I might as well die happy. The problem with that is that if you dont die of old age in your sleep, you usually die of some disease or illness that is quite painful for everyone involved.

Most disease is caused by constipation by eating foods that your body cant digest because they are so full of chemicals. Hence the distended stomachs. What keeps toxins moving through our water based bodies is just that! WATER! The body

becomes bogged down in festering toxins, because we, as a nation stay dehydrated and malnourished. Sodas, including the diet variety are pure poison! For children, sodas rob the body of phosphorous, affecting bone density and the acid disrupts the bodies pH balance leading to poor immune functioning, not to mention what the sugar does to the kidneys and pancreas. And guess what is becoming a common ailment in children today? Diabetes. Is it any wonder, when water is considered too blah to drink. I still cant understand why a soda costs mere pennies and water often cost double! Due to pollution you should drink filtered water. If you would drink at least 8 glasses of water a day and eat 5 to 7 vegetables and 2 to 4 fruits, it

would make a world of difference to your health. Dr. F. Batmanghelidj, the author of Obesity, Cancer, Depression: Their Common Cause & Natural Cure, states, You are not sick, you are thirsty! Regain your vibrant health with water. Visit the website: www.watercure.com to find out what led him to his research and review the many books he wrote on this subject.

Weight & Metabolism

Many people today complain of slow metabolism which really is the amount of energy required to maintain the life processes. Is there any truth to it? Everyone is unique. Based on your genetic make up, your blood type and your metabolic rate, you can determine what works best for you. Basing your plan of attack on what has worked for someone else may lead you to a tremendous let down. Diet and exercise are important for maintaining proper weight and speeding up your metabolism or for burning calories. Aerobic exercise is not always enough, resistance training (with weights) has been shown to work well as a part of an exercise regimen in weight reduction. To develop a diet plan read Eat Right 4 Your Type, by Dr. Peter DAdamo. You can purchase a copy of his book at www.alibris.com  -ewc

Exercise Boons: Common Sense

Tim Morrow is a man who likes to use common sense to guide him through life. He even has a website: www.commonsenseherbs.com that you can visit to learn about his natural life style. What got him started on his journey into common sense was a bout he had with prostate cancer and not wanting to take some experimental drugs that had no record of helping prostrate cancer but did have guaranteed side effects. Tim advocates that each  one of us be the primary care taker and giver of our body. He found his solution to his prostate cancer by using herbs. He learned from this experience and has had great health ever since. He remarried, has a 10 year old daughter, has developed his own line of herbs. He's even learned to fly a helicopter. He plans to live to be 150 years old if he can while enjoying each and every day as an active and fit person.

Tim exercises by working  out daily at the YMCA weight lifting and using all the exercise machines, especially the leg machines. Your legs are the second most powerful body part (your jaws are number one).

). If that is not enough he takes Karate lessons (twice a week), plays Tennis (3 times a week), roller skates (at least 4 miles), ice skating (twice a month) and walks (2 miles). He says he feels better than ever, and never imagined that he would have the muscle tone that he does at his current age of 72. He brags about beating guys in tennis who are 20 to 25 years younger than he, and so he should! Tim works as an herbalist and an iridologist, teacher and lecturer and a "confirmist" (confirms what you knew was the truth anyhow)! He is available for consultations and is based out of California. His toll free number is (800) 527-5682. His book, Sick by Ignorance, Well By Knowledge will be out in August 2006. –ewc

Food for Thought: Why Eat Vegetables

So many people today say that they don't like vegetables, when everyone should eat at least 5 to 7 veggies a day  and some of them should be raw! Yes, more of vegetables and less of meat and starchy foods. Our body is able to process vegetables, and eliminate the waste quickly and utilize the vitamins, mineral and enzymes necessary for proper body functioning. The fiber from vegetable is important

for regular bowel movements, which should occur at least 3 times a day or 20 minutes after a meal. Constipation is a major cause of disease.

peppers, tomatoes: Green: dark leafy greens, such as collards, kale, and spinach; Flavor enhancers such as parsley, celery, onions, leeks, chives, oregano, thyme, rosemary, etc.

Variety is important. Orange: carrots, sweet potatoes, squash, pumpkin, Red: beets, red bell

The fiber from vegetable is important for regular bowel movements.

Eating a medley of vegetables makes it easy to obtain the daily requirement. Try visiting a local farm for inspiration. –ewc

The Grainy Truth About Wild Rice

Wild Rice is a misnomer, it is not really a rice, but the seed of an aquatic plant, actually a grass seed. It has been  called the Rolls-Royce of grains. It is an expensive grain to purchase. It is a native American crop that is still harvested as it was in olden days, during the rice moon in September in the upper Great Lakes region.

Two people harvest the crop in a wood canoe (birch), one pushing the boat, while the other pulls plants down over the gunwale and beats

out the grain with cedar flails. The seed that falls into the lake will create next year's  harvest. It takes about three pounds of seed

to get one pound of product for market. Other varieties grown in Korea, Burma, Japan and China are different from the wild rice mostly grown in Minnesota and which is a true American crop. Wild Rice is extremely flavorful, high in protein, low in fat and sodium and a great source of fiber, B vitamins and minerals.. It cooks up to be three times it's volume, so consider that when looking at it's price per pound! -ewc

Couples Communication: Appearance

When you have been in a long term relationship, sometimes you may take it for granted that our partner will love us no matter how we look, smell, dress or eat. If it comes up in discussion it may sound like this, "When we were dating  you never did that… or when we first got together you always… what happened? You used to get dressed up just for me! Or We used to go out once a week...etc. Your partner may still love you, but may not appreciate the relaxed standards, especially if they see you make efforts for others. Your partner is the most important  person in your life and wants that communicated on a daily basis. Love is not blind after the first blush! Familiarity requires that you make a conscientious effort not to breed contempt, but to foster growing more in love each day! That is quite a challenge.

As a relationship grows changes occur, babies are born, weight is  gained, looks change, jobs lost, and as we age, illnesses may occur… in other words , life happens and sometimes takes a toll. But whatever happens, still put your best foot forward, keeping a positive attitude. The effort is appreciated, as it is an acknowledgment and affirmation of love continuing on through whatever trials and tribulations occur. Doing the best you can to stay positive may make all the difference to a relationship  surviving difficulties.

The book, Creating Intimate Moments, Couple's Communication: 52 Weekly Dates, will be available Summer 2006. -ewc

Your Body's Beat: The Thyroid Gland by Tim Morrow

Your thyroid is one inch and one ounce, small, but very powerful. It is located in the mid throat. It helps you to metabolize your food, that means how you burn your food off. It distributes all the calcium in your body and for women it regulates the body temperature during menstruation. It also filters your blood before it goes to your head. And most importantly it regulates your heart beat.

A goiter is a swollen thyroid. The thyroid swells because it doesn't have the raw material it needs, so it enlarges in an attempt to do a better job. The needed raw material is called "iodine". The best iodine comes from the sea vegetation. Alfalfa is the land kelp as it has the same iodine as sea kelp. Everyone can't live near the sea, so if you live inland you can

Artificial iodine, the kind that you buy from the grocery store and drugstore is artificial. If you are artificial it will work in you but if not, it will worsen the condition. Work on your thyroid with natural things.

eat alfalfa, even grow your own alfalfa sprouts. You can use sea salt instead of table salt which is man made.

Sea vegetation is a great food
for the thyroid!

Essential Oils: Bergamot (Citrus Bergamia)

Bergamot comes from a tree that is closely related to the lemon tree. It is named after the town Bergamo in Italy from where it was first sold. Legend has it that Christopher Columbus brought this tree from the Canary Islands to Italy where it flourished and was used for the healing of fevers. It is a perfumers favorite, as it has an  emotionally uplifting fragrance and was one of the ingredients in the original eau de Cologne.

Bergamot is known for it's ability to heal wounds, reduce fever, relieve pain and for calming the nervous system. It has antibacterial, antidepressant, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and deodorant properties. Caution: Do not use bergamot directly on skin that will be exposed to sunlight as it will cause skin discoloration and sensitivity. -ewc

Parenting in the Neighborhood: Need Affordable Healthcare?!
by Willie Martinez

Healthcare in the United States is a serious and burning issue for Americans to consider in today's economy. With the average cost of health insurance skyrocketing and more and more insurance companies disqualifying people for various reasons, many Americans are being left out in the cold. To add to that, many companies hire only part-time employees to avoid having to provide healthcare benefits. Also, many people with preexisting conditions are unable to obtain coverage.

Congress has been debating the healthcare crisis in the U.S. The President mentioned it during his State of the Union address. One of the solutions that Congress and the President discussed underlines the need for consumer-driven healthcare plans.

Well, Family Care found that answer over 23 years ago. Funny, how it took Congress almost quarter of a century to find out what Family Care has known for that long!

In 1983, Family Care originated the non-insurance approach to reducing healthcare costs. "Since our beginning, our goal has been to provide our members with the most creative and comprehensive healthcare discount packages available anywhere. And over the past 23 years, we have saved our members thousands upon thousands of dollars on their healthcare needs.

Although Family Care is not an insurance company, agent, or agency in any state, we have made the same types of price agreements

with providers, but we pass the savings on to you.

At Family Care, we care about you and your family and we care about making healthcare affordable for everyone, regardless of type of job or age and with no medical restrictions. Without insurance, a routine visit to a doctor becomes expensive. At Family Care we make routine doctor visits affordable."

With the Family Care Program you also have the advantage to access a national network specializing in alternative medicine and wellness services including: Acupuncture, Allergy Treatments, Yoga, Anti-Aging Therapy, Diet and Nutritional Counseling, Cosmetic Dentistry, Massage Therapy and many more. THIS IS NOT INSURANCE. For more information go to www.elizahints.com and click on Family Care in the menu. –ewc
