home pollutants info

Did you know?
The Environmental Protection Agency has stated that indoor air pollution is one of the top 5 highest-ranking environmental health problems. In fact, you are more likely to get sick from pollution in your home or office than from outdoor pollution!

With proper care and cleaning, you can reduce conditions that allow pollution to grow and spread. We want to help you fight indoor pollution by finding and eliminating the hidden sources.  The links below contain information about products Eliza recommends to help with these common sources of in-home pollution.

Pollen
Grass and tree pollen irritate over 36 million people every year.  Pollen is a trigger for allergy and asthma symptoms and can enter the home environment through even a small crack under the door. Try to keep your windows closed and utilize a high-efficiency
air purifier, such as the Lux Guardian Air to clean the indoor environment.

Mold & Mildew
Mold and mildew can aggravate allergies when spores are released into the air.

Dust & Dust Mites
Household dust is composed mostly of dust mites and their feces. Dust mites are present in every home and irritate allergies and asthma. Reduce your exposure to dust and dust mites by vacuuming carpets, bare floors and furniture daily with a True HEPA vacuum cleaner system, such as the Lux Guardian.

Pet Dander
Although pets are considered "man's best friends," many people suffer from allergic reactions to animal dander. Pet dander and saliva can circulate within indoor air, prompting allergic reactions. Walls should be cleaned periodically as pet allergens can stick to vertical surfaces.

Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)
Organic chemicals are widely used as ingredients in household products and some are released as volatile organic compounds (VOCs) when the product is used.  Also, new carpet can be a source of VOCs, which can cause allergic reactions such as nose bleeds and eye and throat irritation. Utilizing a high-efficiency air purifier, such as the Lux Guardian Air as well as vacuuming the carpet with a True HEPA cleaning system like the Lux Guardian can reduce the number of VOCs in the air.

Bacteria
Infectious diseases may be spread by bacteria present in indoor ventilation systems. Bacteria also thrive in moist areas of the home so make sure to repair water leaks in pipes, around tubs and sinks and periodically check the water heater to ensure there are no leaks or seepage. Run a high-efficiency air purifier, such as the Lux Guardian Air, to cleanse the air of harmful microbes.

Smoke & Soot
Environmental tobacco smoke is a major source of indoor pollution and can irritate allergy and asthma sufferers. Combustion equipment such as stoves, fireplaces, furnaces and clothes dryers can also release a variety of harmful particulates. Such equipment should be vented directly to the outdoors and periodic professional inspection and maintenance is recommended.
